The Pea Pod Cafe

Here is what's happening this week at The Pea Pod Cafe:

NEW HOURS - The Pea Pod Cafe has extended their hours. They will be open Tuesday through Friday 11am-4pm and Saturday 11am-7pm.

ART - Using a Cincinnati Art Academy education as her foundation, Rebecca Weller has spent the last five years studying and working out of her studio. An exploration of the master's styles and techniques has served well the development of her unique and evolving style. A strikingly narrow range of colors and a painterly hand, combined with a deft combination of thin glazing and opaque layers of paint, characterize the Asian-inspired paintings created by Weller. Her exploration of this foreign culture has led to a profound cultural awareness. Rebecca's work will be exhibited throughout the cafe.

Brandon Dawson will be performing in the Pea Pod Community Room Saturday, September 20 from 3-5pm. Originally from Idaho, Brandon relocated his family to Ohio several years ago in search of a new start. Since then, he's crossed the globe managing tours with Over the Rhine and Kim Taylor. Off the road now and back in Cincinnati, Brandon is concentrating on his own fusion of soul, blues, and straight ahead rock & roll, owing his songwriting craft as much to Van Morrison and George Harrison as to Chris Whitley and Jeff Lynne. You can learn more about Brandon at: http://www.bluejordan.com and http://www.myspace.com/brandonsdawson.

Original choreography by J. Karin Bond-Williams, Amy Harpring, Kasib Hasan and Ben Walker II will blend classical ballet and jazz with hip hop and a unique spin on the soundtrack to bring the classic story to life with lots of Cincinnati flavor! Featuring a diverse, highly talented cast of professional, pre-professional, youth and community dancers, East Vs. West Side Story will bring the entire community together to celebrate the best of the East and the West!

On Friday, April 24, 2009 at 8PM and Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2PM and 8PM the season continues with the Leaping for Literacy production, Myth, which brings the epic, ancient myths from a variety of cultures to life, including Roman, Greek, Norse, Indian, Native American, African, Chinese, and more in a family-friendly show that encourages families to read together. Featuring a diverse, highly talented cast of professional, pre-professional, youth and community dancers, this show will engage audiences of all ages! The Leaping for Literacy Project also includes a Poster & Poetry Contest, free promotional performances in bookstores and libraries, a downloadable Parent/Teacher Guide in English and Spanish with reading lists and activities to enhance the performance experience and a book giveaway at the Aronoff performances.

Some of the best dancers from the best companies and the best choreography in the world will once again converge on Cincinnati for the Eighth Annual Gala of International Dance Stars for one show only at 8PM on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Aronoff Center.  The Gala of International Dance Stars wows the audience with the gravity defying athleticism, artistry and strength of the dancers, the traditional and new, on-the-edge choreography, remarkable diversity of cast, music and dance styles and the sheer joy of the experience!  In 2008, 14 fabulous dancers from 9 world renowned companies represented 7 Countries. The audience gave resounding ovations throughout the evening and a long standing ovation at the end of the show. One audience member said, "I wanted to thank you once again for bringing such a diverse and virtuosic program of performers to Cincinnati."  Another one added, "All of the dancers were spectacular and I loved the diversity of the performances."
