Kennedy Heights Arts Center

Click 2008
Opening Reception August 9th, 6-8 pm

Kennedy Heights Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening of Click 2008, an exhibition devoted entirely to the medium of photography.  This is our fourth year of the show featuring a diverse array of black and white, color, and digital photography.  All are invited to a free Opening Evening Reception on Saturday, August 9th from 6-8 p.m. with complimentary refreshments and entertainment.  Thanks to our exhibition season sponsor National City.

A special feature of Click 2008 is the American Society of Media Photographers' One-and-Only Item show.  This imaginative annual exhibition sponsored by ASMP originated 14 years ago and travels to several galleries in the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.  Kennedy Heights Arts Center is honored to be one of the selected venues.  Each year, photographers are challenged to create original artwork that incorporates a specific ordinary object.  The item for this year's exhibition is clear packaging tape!  Although every photograph must include packaging tape somehow, the results are varied and imaginative in style and form.  The Best of Show winner each year gets to pick the item for the next year's exhibition.  This year's exhibit includes the work of over 40 practicing professional ASMP member photographers.

Click runs from August 9 - September 13, 2008.  Gallery hours are Saturdays 10 am - 4 pm and by appointment.  For more information, please call 631-4278.

The Pea Pod Cafe

Here is what's happening this week at The Pea Pod Cafe:

NEW HOURS - The Pea Pod Cafe has extended their hours. They will be open Tuesday through Friday 11am-4pm and Saturday 11am-7pm.

MUSIC - There will be music in the Pea Pod community room this Saturday 3-5pm.

Holly Spears is a uniquely talented singer/songwriter who is poised to take her place on the world stage. From a small town in West Virginia she has carried her talents from the due paying days of playing in local bands to touring with international recording act Blessid Union Of Souls. Proving that she is a "Girl On A Mission," Holly wowed industry vets at the Mid Point Music Festival with her voice and stage presence, meanwhile causing a buzz around her name and talents at SXSW in 2005. It's not only Holly's amazing performance skills that are starting to bring her recognition and praise, her talents as a songwriter and recording artist are starting to open doors too, as Holly has recently had her music featured in MTV's Making The Video. With more than 400 shows under her belt and only a guitar on her back Holly has captivated the ears and hearts of everyone who has heard her introspective and poetic lyrics. Through her simply unique arrangements and melodies Holly strips her soul bare with every song she shares with the world and her gift is so powerful that she draws a following both male and female of all ages. Eliot Sloan of Blessid Union states, Holly gives herself totally to the music and one can't help but to feel the emotion of every story she tells.  Now is the time for you to experience what only Holly Spears can deliver. http://www.hollyspears.com

ART - Using a Cincinnati Art Academy education as her foundation, Rebecca Weller has spent the last five years studying and working out of her studio. An exploration of the master's styles and techniques has served well the development of her unique and evolving style. A strikingly narrow range of colors and a painterly hand, combined with a deft combination of thin glazing and opaque layers of paint, characterize the Asian-inspired paintings created by Weller. Her exploration of this foreign culture has led to a profound cultural awareness. Rebecca's work will be exhibited throughout the cafe.
